01. Embroidered Mini Dress + Fringe Boots
A wide belt completely changes this dress and I use this trick all the time with dresses I already own — it’s one of those things that costs nothing but makes the whole outfit feel intentional.
Fringe boots are also way more practical than people think. Ankles covered, moves when you walk, and you’re not worried about the grass situation.
02. Burgundy Crochet Top + Ruffle Mini Skirt
I would stop this person and ask where they got everything.
The whole thing is in the same deep burgundy-brown family and that’s why it works — nothing is competing, nothing feels like too much.

This is not a combination I would have put together myself but seeing it I completely get it.

Lolla is genuinely one of the best places to lean into Y2K festival style.
Everyone’s doing something a little extra and no one’s going to look at you weird for wearing a rhinestone top at 3pm.

This is a late night set outfit, full stop. You don’t wear this at 2pm in the sun — you save it for when the stage lights come on and you want to catch every single one of them.

19. Black Tank + Leopard Micro Shorts + Tall Boots
The wide belt on leopard shorts sounds insane until you see it. The black tank is the whole reason it works — take that away and it tips over completely. I wouldn’t have had the guts.

This is the Y2K look I’d actually wear.

That green sequin bag against all black and denim — nobody talks about how much one unexpected bag can change an outfit but this is the example I’m going to use from now on.

All white at a festival is terrifying and this woman just did it. The silver western belt is the only thing breaking it up and it’s exactly right. I want to be this brave.

Shoes & Accessories — The Real Talk
If there’s one thing that can completely ruin what to wear to Lollapalooza, it’s the wrong shoes. I say that having messed it up myself.
Boots look amazing. They also wreck your feet by hour six. Break them in for at least a week before you go — new boots on day one is genuinely a bad decision.
Sneakers are the safe bet. Chunky soles are trending and they’re actually more comfortable — more cushioning, more support for a full day on your feet. White sneakers go with everything but they will not stay white. Just accept it.
Flat sandals are fine if you’re okay with grass between your toes and the possibility of mud. Trail sandals are the practical upgrade — sporty enough to work with most looks on this list and actually designed for this kind of day.
For bags — clear bags are required at the main stage areas. A small clear bag plus a tiny fanny pack worn crossbody is the combo most people land on. It works.
And sunglasses. Grant Park is completely open. No shade. It is bright out there all day and you will feel it.
Practical Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me
Sunscreen. Reapply it. I know you know this. Set a phone alarm because you will forget.
Waterproof mascara only. Regular mascara doesn’t survive the heat, the humidity, and the rain. I learned this in a porta-potty mirror and it was not a good moment.
Bring a layer for the evening even if it feels unnecessary at noon. The temperature drops more than you’d expect once the sun goes down.
Dry shampoo. Pack it. By day two you’ll be very glad you did.
