Okay so makeup is fun again. Like actually fun.
For the past few years it felt like the only acceptable look was “I woke up like this” — barely there skin, no liner, definitely no color. And honestly? I was over it before it was even over.
So when I started noticing more color, more personality, more actual eye makeup showing up everywhere — I went down a full rabbit hole.
Runway recaps, makeup artist interviews, TikTok, what real people are actually wearing. And I have thoughts.
Here are the 12 summer 2026 makeup trends worth knowing about. None of them require special skills. All of them are actually wearable.

The One Thing Defining Summer 2026 Makeup
Before we get into all 12 — there’s one thing that ties every single trend this season together: pick one thing and go for it, let everything else chill out.
Bold eyes but simple lips. Statement lip but keep the eyes soft. Once you get that, the whole season makes sense.
Skin first.
Skin: The Base Has Completely Changed
Glass skin is out. The new thing is skin that just looks like… good skin. Two directions, both very doable.
1. Soft-Blur Skin
Remember when everyone was trying to look like they had a filter on their face at all times? That wet, almost plastic finish? Yeah. That’s over.
And good riddance honestly — it was so much work for a result that just made you look like you edited yourself.
What’s replacing it is way easier. Soft-blur skin just means skin that looks smooth and even without looking like you’re wearing anything heavy. Real texture shows through a little. Pores exist.
You get there with a skin tint or a light foundation — anything that evens things out without covering everything up.
[ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation] is exactly this kind of product. The finish is somewhere between dewy and matte and it genuinely looks like skin.
2. Bronzed Glow
At the same time, bronzed skin is having a huge moment. Not the over-contoured, Instagram-filter bronze — more like you’ve actually been outside and your skin is happy about it.
The key thing this season: matte bronzer is back. Not shimmery, not glowy — just warm and soft and real-looking. Sweep it across your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, your temples.
[Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer] does this really well — the texture is soft and it doesn’t pull orange which is always the fear with bronzer.
Personally I go back and forth between these two. Soft-blur when I want to look put together. Bronzed glow when I want to look like I have a life.
Blush: It’s Not About the Product Anymore
Blush isn’t going anywhere — but this summer it got way more interesting. Three completely different ways to wear blush are all trending right now and they look nothing alike.
3. Watercolor Flush
This one is so sheer it barely looks like blush — more like your cheeks just naturally did that. A tiny bit of product, tapped on with your fingers, and it looks like you’ve been outside for twenty minutes.
Nobody’s going to ask what blush you’re wearing. They’re just going to think you look good.
[Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush] in any of the lighter shades is perfect for this. Seriously a tiny amount — less than you think.
4. Blurred Blush
You know that blush that completely disappears by noon? This isn’t that.
Cream-to-powder formula, smooshed into your skin until it kind of just… disappears into it. No sharp edges, no obvious placement. Just a soft wash of color that looks like it grew there.
And because it’s matte it actually stays on — I’ve been testing this for the past month and the longevity difference compared to my usual dewy blush is genuinely not small.
If you wear blush and you live somewhere hot, switch to this for summer. You’ll never go back to dewy in July.
5. Ombré High Blush
First attempt: I looked absolutely unhinged. Second attempt: actually really beautiful.
Sweep blush all the way up — past your cheekbones, toward your temples, sometimes even toward your forehead.
It sounds like a lot but the result is this pretty natural-looking flush that somehow reads as both dramatic and effortless. Big fluffy brush, light hand. That’s what I learned the hard way.
Eyes: This Is The Part I’m Most Excited About
Four trends. All good. Stay with me because this is where summer 2026 gets actually exciting.
Eye makeup basically disappeared for a few years. No liner, barely any shadow, there was even a no-mascara trend — which, I’m sorry, no.
I respected the minimalism but I did not love it. Eyes are back this season with actual color and personality and I am so here for it.
6. Watercolor Eyeshadow Wash
Take any eyeshadow — pink, blue, orange, green — and just sweep it loosely across your lid. Don’t blend it perfectly. Just kind of… put it there. The messier it looks the better it actually looks, which is very freeing.
I tried a dusty pink using [Urban Decay Naked3 Palette] with just a skin tint underneath and it was genuinely one of my favorite makeup moments this year. Takes two minutes. Looks like you tried in the best way.
7. Colored Smudgy Liner
If you do one thing from this entire list, do this. Everything else is optional. Colored liner along your lash line — emerald, burgundy, navy — then smudge it a little with your finger. Done.
Makes your whole face look more awake and interesting without looking like you did anything dramatic.
I’ve been doing this almost every morning and it’s changed my whole getting-ready energy. [NYX Slide On Pencil] has a great green shade that’s been on my radar for the emerald version.
8. Colored Mascara
Blue, turquoise, fuchsia — just on your bottom lashes. Against otherwise bare skin it’s this unexpected detail that people notice but can’t quite figure out.
Sounds like a costume, looks like a vibe. This is genuinely the lowest-commitment trend on this entire list.
9. Statement / Doll-like Lashes
Wispy, doll-like, a little playful. The whole idea is that your lashes are the main event and everything else stays quiet — no liner, no shadow, just lashes.
Individual clusters work way better than a full strip for this. More natural, more modern, way less intimidating to actually put on.
Lips: Bold Is Back. But Make It Blurry.
This is where the Y2K nostalgia really shows up — bold colors, high shine, actual drama.
But here’s the thing: none of it looks harsh or overdone because everything has soft, blurry edges. Bold but not trying too hard. Didn’t think that was possible but here we are.
10. Cloud Lips
Also called the “Nina Park lip” — named after a celebrity makeup artist who’s been doing this forever.
The idea is simple: put on your lip color, then use your finger to lightly blur the edges outward. Just softly smudged so the color looks like it’s part of your lip instead of sitting on top of it.
Try this once and you will never apply lipstick the normal way again. It makes every single lip color look better — fuller, more natural, more flushed.
I’m not exaggerating. [Merit Signature Lip Blush] is my current favorite for this because the formula basically does the work for you.
11. High-Shine Gloss
Wet, shiny, the kind that makes your lips look almost three-dimensional. I genuinely forgot how much I loved gloss until it started showing up everywhere again.
Sheer bright colors — coral, pink, clear with a little shimmer. Worn alone or dabbed over a lip liner. [NYX Butter Gloss] is the easiest starting point — affordable, easy to find, and the texture is actually really good.
12. Bold Color
These are the colors showing up everywhere this season.
The rule is simple: if your lip is strong, keep everything else soft. Bare skin, minimal blush, no dramatic eye — just the lip. It works every single time.
For the deep berry moment, [MAC Matte Lipstick in Diva] is worth looking into.
How to Wear It All This Summer
Eyes or lips. Not both. That’s the whole rule this season. Pick one thing to go bold on and let the rest of your face support it.
The second you try to do dramatic lashes AND a bold red lip AND ombré blush at the same time it tips into full costume. Not the goal.
Here’s what I’m actually doing:
Everyday: Soft-Blur Skin + Blurred Blush + colored mascara on the lower lash. Ten minutes. Looks current without looking like I tried. This combo gets me more compliments than my more involved looks and I think about that constantly.
Weekend / going out: Bronzed Glow + Ombré High Blush + a bold lip. Deep berry or a proper red. Warm, a little dramatic, very summer. I’ve done this twice already this season and both times someone asked what I did differently.
Easiest to start with: Colored liner. Thirty seconds. Instant difference.
Most payoff: Cloud lips. Once you figure it out every lipstick you own suddenly looks better.
Still on my list: Ombré High Blush — I’ll get there. Full turquoise mascara on top? Ask me again in August.
You’re going to forget half of this. Save it now and try one thing tomorrow. Drop a comment with what you went for — I’m genuinely curious what’s actually landing for people outside of mood boards.
